Variants
Learn about our variants, SKUs, and inventory management
Every product in Roastify has variants. Each variant has its own unique SKU. Variants are different "versions" of the same product, such as different sizes or colors. For example, in the clothing world if you sell a t-shirt in three sizes and two colors, you would have six total variants.
At Roastify, each variant has its own unique SKU. A SKU is a unique identifier for a product variant, and each product variant can only have one SKU.
If you create a new product, it will come with two variants by default: one for the pre-ground coffee version, and one for the whole bean version. If you are creating a new product for Shopify, you can see the variants listed in your product editor (shown below:)
Remove a Variant
Roastify always keeps a record of the variants for your products. There is no reason to add / remove / or modify them. However, you may want to edit your variants in your Shopify store. For example, if you created a Roastify product with artwork that says Whole Bean
on the packaging, you may want to remove the Ground
variant from your variants in Shopify.
If you need to remove a variant from a product in Shopify, you can do so by following these steps:
In your Shopify admin, click on the Products
tab in the left navigation bar. Find the product you want to edit, and click on the product name to open the product editor.
In the product editor, scroll down to the Variants
section. Find the variant you want to remove, and click the Delete
button next to the variant.
After you have removed the variant, click the Save
button in the top right corner of the product editor to save your changes.
Add a Variant
If you need to add a variant to a product in Shopify, you can do so by following these steps below. It is extremely important to pay attention to the SKU you are adding, as it must be unique for each variant and must be spelled correctly.
In your Shopify admin, click on the Products
tab in the left navigation bar. Find the product you want to edit, and click on the product name to open the product editor.
In the product editor, scroll down to the Variants
section. Click the Add Variant
button to add a new variant to the product.
Enter the details for the new variant, including the variant title (grind type), price, and SKU. Pay close attention when adding the new SKU. The new SKU should be nearly identical to the other variant, except for a slight change to the grind type. For example, if you are adding a Ground
variant, the SKU would include GND
, such as COF-GND-12O-RCK-BOX
. Your other variant would then have a WHB
SKU of COF-WHB-12O-RCK-BOX
.
At this point, it is also very important that Roastify
is selected in the dropdown for Inventory. This will ensure that Roastify manages the inventory for this variant.
Pay careful attention when typing in the SKU for your new variant. If the SKU is incorrect, the order fulfillment will fail. The SKU format has dashes between each part of the SKU, and the SKU should be all uppercase letters. For example, COF-GND-12O-RCK-BOX
After you have added the variant, click the Save
button of the product editor to save your changes.
